Abstract:
This study investigated the influence of some teachers-related variables on the implementation of Senior Secondary Schools Government Curriculum in Ikom Education Zone of Cross River State, Nigeria. In order to achieve this purpose, six (6) specific purposes and corresponding research questions and null hypotheses were used to guide the study. The study employed ex-post-facto research design. The population of the study consisted of 217 (144 males and 73 females) Government teachers spread across the 110 public secondary schools in Ikom Education zone. A sample of 108 Government teachers in the Zone was drawn for the study using cluster sampling technique. The instrument used for data collection for the study was designed by the researcher, titled “Influence of Teachers’ Related Variables on the Implementation of Government Curriculum Questionnaire” (ITRVIGCQ). Data collected were analyzed on SPSS version 21 using mean and standard deviation to answer all the research questions while ANOVA and t-test statistics were used to test the null hypotheses at .05 level of significance. The findings of the study among others showed that: There was a significant influence of teachers’ qualification on the content knowledge and instructional activities for the implementation of SSS government curriculum in Ikom Education Zone of Cross River State; There was a significant influence of teachers’ experience on the content knowledge and content activities for the implementation of SSS government curriculum in Ikom Education Zone of Cross River State; and that Gender had no significant influence on teachers’ content knowledge and instructional activities for the implementation of SSS Government curriculum in Ikom Education Zone of Cross River State. Based on these findings, it was recommended among others that: Teachers’ training programmes should adequately equip trainee teachers with the requisite content knowledge alike for effective implementation of SSII Government curriculum; More experienced teachers’ should be engaged in the implementation of SSII Government curriculum; and that Workshops, seminars and conferences should be organized for in-service and pre-service Government teachers in order to educate them on how to carry out the teachers’ instructional activities. All these can promote effective or proper implementation of Senior Secondary School Government curriculum in the Zone.
