Abstract:
This study assessed the mobilization strategies for active participation of youths in community development programmes in Enugu State. The specific purposes of the study were to determine the extent to which workshop can be used as a strategy for the mobilization of youths for active participation in community development programmes in Enugu State; ascertain the extent to which internet and social media can be used as a strategy for the mobilization of youths for active participation in community development programmes in Enugu State; find out the extent education can be used as a strategy for the mobilization of youths for active participation in community development programmes in Enugu State, ascertain the extent dialogue can be used as a strategy for mobilization youths for active participation in community development programmes in Enugu State and identify the challenges associated with the mobilization of youths for active participation in community development programmes in Enugu State .The study was guided by 5 research questions and two null hypotheses. The design of the study was a descriptive survey design. Purposive random sampling technique was used to draw the sample size.The population of this study was 5,200 male and female members of thirteen 13 registered youth Organizations, drawn from the two Local government Areas, in Enugu State.The sample for the study was made up of 520 male and female youths drawn from two Local Government Areas of Enugu State. Mobilization strategies for active participation of youths in community development programmes in Enugu State.(MSAPYCDPQ)was the main instrument used for data collection. The instrument was validated by research experts, two in Adult Education and one in measurement and evaluation.The instrument overall reliability coefficient was 0.89which showed that it was highly reliable. The data collected from the 5 research questions of the study were analyzed using mean scores and standard deviations, while t-test analysis was used to test the two null-hypotheses formulated for the study. The data analyses revealed among others that: Workshop helps in the medical empowerment of rural youths,internet and social media help youths to interact and communicate on issues such as health care and civic education,education assists youths to understand their rights and duties as citizens of a democratic country,The challenges associated with the mobilization of youths for active participation in community development programmes was inadequate funding It was recommended among others that rural and urban youths should try all possible means to effectively participate in planning of extension education programmes.
