<description>Integration of Indigenous Agricultural Knowledge and Practices into Nigeria Certificate in Education Agricultural Education Curriculum
Ejiofor, Toochukwu Eleazar
Indigenous knowledge is the experience people in a given community have developed overtime and continue to develop. It is based on experience, often tested over centuries of use, adapted to local culture and environment and is dynamic and changing. Any improvement and development of a nation’s agricultural growth and progress should be based on the country’s indigenous knowledge and practices and rooted in the nation’s educational system. Therefore, this study was designed to integrate indigenous Agricultural Knowledge and Practices (IAKP) into Nigeria Certificate in Education Agricultural Education Curriculum. The specific objectives were to determine; (i) the IAKP utilized by farmers in Agricultural productions, (ii) determine the objectives of IAKP to be integrated, (iii)determine the content for achieving the objectives of IAKP, (iv)determine the teaching methods that should be adopted in teaching IAKP,(v) determine the evaluation methods that should be adopted in assessing the objectives of IAKP, and (vi) determine the existing courses in which IAKP could be integrated in NCE Agricultural Education Curriculum. The study adopted descriptive survey design and Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA) and was conducted in South Eastern Nigeria. Six research questions and four null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The population of the study was 566 subjects made up of 120 aged Farmers, 361 Extension Agents and 85 Agricultural Education Lecturers in Colleges of Education in the study area. Total sample of 327 respondents were used for the study. This consisted of 60 farmers, 182 Extension Agents, and 85 lecturers. The instruments for data collection were a structured questionnaire and interview schedule. The questionnaire comprised 163 items arranged in five sections (A, B, C, D, and E). Each section sought information on the specific objectives of the study respectively. The instruments for data collection were subjected to face validation by 7 experts and the internal consistency of the instrument was established using cronbach alpha which yielded the reliability coefficients of &#13;
0.92, 0.85, 0.88, 0.82, and 0.91 respectively for the five sections .The questionnaire was administered through personal contact while the interview schedule was used to conduct Key Informant Interview(KII) and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) Data for research question one were analyzed qualitatively; descriptive statistics were used to answer research questions two to six while t-test statistic was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of probability. Based on the data analyzed, the following findings were made: (i) farmers utilized IAKP in various &#13;
aspects of agricultural productions; (ii) nine specific IAKP objectives for integration into NCE Agriculture Education Curriculum were determined; (iii) different teaching methods; &#13;
(iv) different evaluation techniques for assessing the objectives of IAKP; and (v) existing courses in which IAKP could be integrated in NCE Agricultural Education Curriculum were determined. Based on the findings of the study, conclusions were drawn and recommendations made which include (a) the need for proper documentation of IAKP utilized by farmers in agricultural production and integrate them into NCE curriculum for preservation and transfer to future generations; (b) policy makers should formulate policies that will promote the adoption and utilization of IAKP; and (c) Non Governmental Organizations (NGO S) should sponsor research on IAK

<description>Effect of Multimedia Projection on Senior Secondary Students’ Achievement and Interest in Sets in Enugu State, Nigeria
Onah, Eunice
The purpose of this study was to ascertain the effect of Multimedia Projection on Senior Secondary Students’ achievement and interest in Sets. Four research questions and six null hypotheses guided the Study. The design of the study was quasi-experimental, non-equivalent Control Group Design. This design was apt since randomization of subjects was not done and intact classes were used. The population for the study was 2,809 SSI students made up of 1,246 males and 1,563 females and the sample size was 200 students from the four intact classes used for the study. Each intact class came from one co-educational school used for the study-two from Nsukka zone for experimental and control groups. Similarly, the other two came from Enugu Education zone, one for Experimental and the other for Control group. Multistage sampling technique was employed for the study; purposive sampling was used in selecting four state schools with functional computers. The four intact classes used were therefore purposely drawn from the four coeducational schools in Enugu State of Nigeria. Balloting without replacement was used in determining which of the two schools, in each education zone, becomes the Experimental group’s school and which one becomes the Control group. The instruments of Set Achievement Test (SAT) and Set Interest Scale (SIS) were used to collect data on the cognitive achievement and interest of students in Sets respectively. The four research questions were answered using means and standard deviations while Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used in testing the hypotheses at 0.05 levels of significance. The results revealed that the use of MUMPPAS in form of CAL package as a teaching method increased students’ achievement and interest in sets more than the conventional chalkboard method of teaching. Both male and female students achieved highly as a result of the use of MUMPPAS and there was no significant interaction effect between MUMPPAS treatment and gender on students’ achievement in Sets also in terest of male and female students in experimental group increased highly as a result of the use of MUMPPAS. However, there was significant interaction effect between MUMPPAS and gender on students’ interest in Sets. Based on the results, it was recommended among others that Mathematics teachers be trained on how to master the technique needed for preparation and use of CAL package like MUMPPAS for effective teaching and learning of different concepts in Mathematics by students

Ejiofor, T. E &amp; Christian C. &amp; Ali
The study examined conservation and management challenges facing wildlife among users in Igbo - Eze North Agricultural Zone of Enugu state, Nigeria. For the present study, data was collected from local users, and analyzed on the basis of opinion of hunters to understand environmental degradation facing wildlife, socio -economic problems militating against local users’ conservation and management practices, and sustainable measures that could be taken for wildlife conservation and management practices. Three research purposes guided the study. A structured questionnaire was developed from the literature reviewed. The findings identified bush- burning as a source of environmental degradation facing wildlife ;religion and westernization as the socio-economic problem militating against local users’ conservation and management practices ;and avoiding the use of poison and explosives during hunting as one of the practices that could sustain wildlife conservation and management among local users. The finding of this research is useful in understanding and addressing both the environmental challenges facing wildlife, and socio - economic problems hindering local users’ conservation and management practices ;sustainable practices that could conserve and manage wildlife, now that wildlife as an agricultural resource of nutritional, economic, health and ecological importance to the users is faced with problem of extinction in the zone. In line with the findings recommendations such as the establishment of Wildlife Conservation and Management Boards (WCMB) in every agricultural zone in the country to conserve and manage this agricultural resource were devised.
