A Study of Parental Control and Juvenile Delinquency in Nsukka LGA of Enugu State
Asogwa, Nnamdi Kingsley
This study sought to investigate the relationship between parental control and juvenile delinquency in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu state. Using a cross-sectional survey design, the study elicited data from six hundred and ten respondents (juveniles and adults) who provided both quantitative and qualitative data, which were statistically and thematically analyzed. Results revealed that respondents identified truancy in school as the type of delinquent behaviour they have ever exhibited. Respondents also identified alcohol consumption and watching of pornographic movies/clips, gambling, bullying, verbal abuse, disobedience to parents/guardians and going to club/staying late night, fighting, as well as running away from home as behaviours they have exhibited before. Similarly, majority of respondents reported committing delinquent acts such as secret watching of adult entertainment, disobeyed parents and teachers stayed away from school, drank alcohol and involved in sexual relationships at least once. While majority reported that they have never smoked weed or cigarette, used or sold drugs for money. The study also found that parental influence, the media, distance from home to school were some of the factors that influenced juvenile delinquency in the area. Result of the Pearson’s correlation revealed that there was a strong negative correlation between the two variables [r = -.79, n= 604, p<.05], with high levels of perceived parental behavioural control associated with lower levels of juvenile delinquency among respondents. Among several recommendations, the study suggested the introduction of intervention programmes that could assist families and adolescents by providing them with information wherein parents will be taught on how to raise responsible adolescents and adolescents will in turn be informed about the short and long term effects of delinquent behaviours and how to improve their self-worth.

Programs that help the healthcare provider to enhance his or her skills can be instituted so that healthcare providers will not be working with outdated knowledge and practices. The hypotheses tested using t-test on medical workers and religious belief plus the hypotheses tested on traditional and orthodox medical workers are statistically significant, also the hypothesis tested using Pearson chi-square indicate that there is no significant level of relationship between the variables.

Igbo Post-Contact Proverbs: The Inyi Example
Unaegbu, Jephthah Elochukwu
This work is on post-contact proverbs in Inyi community of southeastern Nigeria. It is observed that there is the need to remove the dearth of focused research or ethnography on post-contact Inyi proverbs. The researcher utilized the quantitative research method. Interview schedule and participant observation are the instruments of data collection. Post-contact proverbs in Inyi were obtained from Umunna meetings and traditional marriage ceremonies and also from respondents who are Okenyes or Inyi elders versed in Inyi culture. The meanings of these proverbs and the occasions in which they are used are also obtained. Forty-four post contact proverbs were collected during the fieldwork. The eleven (11) contact proverbs which were obtained during participant observation were utilized by Inyi indigenes who were younger than the Okenyes. The remaining thirty-three post contact proverbs came from the Okenyes. The need for a wider study of Igbo post contact proverbs is advanced.
