AZUKA, EMEKA, V.
The study was aimed at assessing the utilization of available resources for the improvement of Nigeria Certificate in Education programme of the National Teachers’ Institute (by Distance Learning System) in South-South, Nigeria. Four research questions guided the study. Four null hypotheses were formulated for the study and were tested at the probability of 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted descriptive survey research design and was carried out in the 18 NCE study centres of National Teachers’ Institute in South-South States. The population of the study was 7,118; made up of 6, 806 distance learning students and 312 course tutors of National Teachers’ Institute in South-South States. The sample of the study was 1, 125 respondents, drawn by using proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire titled “Utilization of Available Resources for the Improvement of NCE Programme of National Teachers’ Institute Questionnaire” (UARINCEPNTIQ). The instrument was face validated by three experts and its reliability was determined using Cronbach alpha estimate with an overall reliability co-efficient of 0.89. Weighted mean and standard deviation were used to answer the four research questions while Student t-test was used to test the four null hypotheses. Copies of the instrument were administered to the respondents through direct delivery technique. Findings of the study revealed that the utilization of staff development programmes, physical facilities, media facilities, and student-support services improved the NCE programme of National Teachers’ Institute by distance learning system to a high extent. All the four null hypotheses tested revealed that there were significant differences between the mean ratings of distance learning students and course tutors of NTI on the extent of utilization of staff development programmes, physical and media facilities, and student-support services in the NCE programme of the National Teachers’ Institute by distance learning system in South-South States. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that the National Teachers’ Institute should mount various staff development programmes for to the development, upgrading and certification of NTI academic staff (course tutors or facilitators); and that National Teachers’ Institute should accept the innovation in teaching approaches (methods) through the use of ICT media to enhance academic performance of distance learning students.

<description>A Historical Study of the Impacts of Western Education on Catholic Religious Vocational Enterprise in South East Nigeria
Ujah Patrick Ndum
The work examined a historical study of the impact of Western Education on Catholic Religious Vocational Enterprise in Southeast, Nigeria. Eleven research questions and ten hypotheses, formulated in line with the statement of the problem, guided the study. The research design adopted for the study was historical – survey. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire, developed by the researcher, which contained (55) fifty five items, and titled “Western Education Impact on Religious Vocational Enterprise Questionnaire (WEIRVEQ). The instrument was validated by three experts in History of Education, Philosophy of Education, and Educational Measurement and Evaluation, all from the Faculty of Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The internal consistency of the instrument was ascertained using Cronbach Alpha, which yielded 0.94 as the reliability coefficient. With the help of six research assistants, the instrument was administered to a total of 674 respondents sampled from the whole population of 12, 112. Direct delivery and retrieval system was used and 100% was returned to the researcher. Mean scores and standard deviation were used for the analysis of the results of the questionnaire, while a t-test was applied to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed that the establishment of the western education; that the Holy Bible as a major book of reading of the premier western education; that the quest for intellectual growth and development through western education; that the apparent superiority of western education to the indigenous education; that the socio-economic emancipation achieved through the western education; that the apparent superiority of Christianity as incorporated in the premier western education to the traditional religion of the people; that the civilizing features of the western education; that the ambition of the youths to become like the masters of the western education; that the religious/moral education inherent in the curriculum of the premier western education, and that the quest for a steady progression of the project of western education, had positive impact on the Catholic religious vocational enterprise in Southeast Nigeria. Based on the findings, the researcher recommended, among others, that the Catholic Church should continue to promote Western Education in our time, just like the expatriate missionaries from Europe did in the Southeast areas of Nigeria.

<description>Effect of Pawpaw and Water Leave Additives on Growth Performance of Giant African Land Snail (Archachatina Marginata)
Ogbonna, Emeka Kelechi
Snail is a slow growing animal which takes about 10 to 14 months to reach maturity. Efforts are geared towards finding possible means of enhancing the growth of the snail so as to meet up with consumers needs while increasing the income of the farmers. This necessitated this study to determine the effect of pawpaw and water leaves additive on growth performance of Giant African Land Snail (Archachatinamarginata). Pawpaw and water leaves additives when incorporated into the compounded snail feed have the capacity of promoting their growth performance. Four research questions and four hypotheses were tested. The study adopted experimental research design with completely randomized design. Snail at the experimental farm was fed with three sample feeds. One with pawpaw leaf additive, the other with water leaf additive and the last without either of the additives. Growth rate was measured using sensitive digital weighing balance while Vainer Caliper was used to measure the length and width. The feed intake was also determined by weigh-back techniques using the same sensitive digital weighing balance. Data collected was described using arithmetic mean while t-test statistics was used to test the null hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that snail in group C(T2) with pawpaw leaf additive recorded the highest weight gain, while the snail in group B (T3) with water leaf additive recorded highest in length and width. Furthermore, the snail in treatment three (T3) had the highest feed consumption rate. It was therefore, concluded that, pawpaw leaf additive enhances weight gain while water leaf additive enhances growth (length and width) in addition to increasing the consumption rate or feed intake of snail. The study therefore recommend among other things that farmers and the industries that compound snail feed should adopt pawpaw and water leaves additive to increase the feed consumption of snail while promoting their growth performance. More so, the snail farmers and researcher in this field in partnership with government should sponsor seminars and workshop for snail farmers and the public who are interested in rearing snail. Institution should establish snail farm which will serve as a research and training center for the school and the host community. In summary, the growth performance of any farm animal is highly dependable on the quality of its feed among other factors. If adequate and balance feed are provided to snail in and out season, snail will perform well and more animal protein feed (snail meat) will be available in the market
