The study investigated the relative effectiveness of Flipped classroom and PowerPoint instructional approaches on students’ achievement and retention in biology in Enugu State, Nigeria. The study was guided by six research questions and six hypotheses. Quasi-experimental design of 2x2 factorial design was adopted for the study. Population of the study comprised of 4,828 Senior Secondary School two (SS2) students from 48 senior secondary schools in Obollo Afor Education Zone. The study employed multistage sampling procedure; comprising purposive and simple random sampling. One instrument was used for data collection in this study, Biology Achievement Test (BAT). The instrument was validated by experts. The internal consistency reliability coefficient of BAT was determined using Kudder- Richardson 20 (K-R 20) formula and yielded a reliability index of 0.89. The estimate of temporal stability of reshuffled form of BAT was determined using test-retest method and was subjected to Pearson correlation coefficient that yielded a correlation coefficient of 0.85. The study lasted for 7 weeks. Data for the study were obtained through pretest, posttest, and retention test. The research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation, while Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significant. The results of the study revealed that both Flipped classroom and powerpoint instructional approaches enhanced students’ achievement and retention in Biology. However, flipped classroom instructional approach was more efficacious than PowerPoint in promoting biology students achievement and retention. The study revealed that gender had no effect on biology students’ achievement and retention and that there was no significant interaction effect of instructional approaches and gender on biology students’ achievement and retention. In line with the findings of the study, the educational implications of the findings were highlighted and the recommendations were equally proffered among others that science teachers, science educators and authors and textbook writers should adopt flipped classroom instructional approach for teaching Biology and curriculum planners should promote its usage to enhance students’ achievement and retention in Biology. The limitations of the study and suggestions for further studies are contained in the study.

<summary type="text">Climate change Adaptation awareness and Attiutude among secondary school biology teachers and students in Awka Education zone of Anambra State
Udegbunam, E. Obiageli
The study is on awareness and attitude of biology teachers and students on climate change adaptation. Four research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. Relevant literatures were reviewed under three major sub-headings of conceptual framework, theoretical framework and review of empirical studies. This study adopted descriptive survey research design. This study was carried out in Awka education zone of Anambra State. The sample for the study will consist of 464 respondents made up of 68 Biology teachers and 396 SSII Biology students drawn from six (6) public secondary schools in Awka education zones in Anambra State. First, simple random sampling technique (balloting with replacement) will be used to select one education zones (Awka, education zones) out of the six education zones in Anambra State. Also, purposive sampling technique was used to sample two LGAs out of the five LGAs in Awka Education Zone. The choice of the two LGAs is because they are among the areas that were adversely affected during the 2012\2015 flooding incidence in Anambra State. Two instruments were used for data collection in this study namely: Climate Change Adaptation Awareness Questionnaire (CCAAQ), and Attitude to Climate Change Adaptation Questionnaire (ACCQ). The instruments were administered to 20 respondents in a school outside the study area but have similar characteristics with the study area. The scores obtained from the trial testing was used to determine the internal consistency reliability of the instrument using Cronbach Alpha Formula and they yielded internal consistency reliability index of .96 and .97 respectively for the two instruments. This indicated that the items in the instrument are reliable. The data collected from the research questions were analysed using mean and standard deviation, while then null hypotheses were analysed using t-test at 0.05 level of significance (P&lt;0.05). Results of the study showed that biology teachers and students have low awareness level on climate change adaptation. Biology teachers and students have poor attitude towards climate change adaptation. Biology teachers and students in rural and urban areas have low awareness of climate change adaptation, although those in urban area had higher mean rating/ there was no significant difference in the mean rating of biology teachers and students on awareness of climate change adaptation by school location. Lastly, biology teachers and students in rural and urban senior secondary biology students had low attitude towards climate change adaptation/ there was no significant on difference in the mean rating of biology teachers and students on attitude towards climate change adaptation by school location.

<summary type="text">Provision and Utilization of Safe Motherhood Programme Among Childbearing Mothers Attending Health Facilities in Nsukka Local Government Area
Ozioko, Hyginus Ejiofor
Adequate provision and utilization of SMP is vital to the reduction of maternal mortality. Safe motherhood programme (SMP) was introduced to help prolong lives of mothers. The purpose of the study was to determine the provision and utilization of SMP in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State. In order to achieve this purpose, twelve research objectives with twelve corresponding research questions and four null hypotheses guided the study. The cross-sectional research design was used for the study. Population for the study comprised 794 health workers and 87518 childbearing mothers (CBMs). A sample of 265 was drawn from health workers and 400 from CBMs using Taro Yamane sample formula. Two researcher’s designed questionnaire known as provision of safe motherhood programme c (PSMPQ) and utilization of safe motherhood questionnaire (USMPQ) were the questionnaire utilized for collection of data. Validity and reliability of the instruments were established. Frequencies and percentages were used to answer research questions while hypothesis 1, 2 and 4 were tested using Krustkal-Wallis and hypothesis 3 was tested using Mann-Whitney Test at 0.05 level of significance. Out of 265 copies of PSMPQ distributed, 263 were used for analysis and out of 400 CBMs copies distributed 393 were used for analysis. The SPSS version 20 was employed for data analysis. The results of the study indicated that; there was provision of antenatal services (94.3%) for CBMs and provision of safe delivery services (86.7%) for CBMs, provision of emergency obstetric services (76.7%) for CBMs and provision of family planning services for CBMs. There was a very low utilization of antenatal services (3.3%) safe delivery services (10.3%) and a low utilization emergency obstetrics (31.6%) and family planning services (31.0%) among CBMs. There was significance difference in utilization of SMP among CBMs across different age groups (χ2 = 43.328, df = 3, p = .0005 &lt; 0.05) and occupation (χ2 = 12.910, df = 3, p = &lt; -0.0005 &lt; 0.05). The result further indicated that there was no significance difference in utilization of SMP among CBMs across different levels of education (χ2 = 2.859, df = 3, P = .414 &gt; 0.05) and location (Md = 3.00, U = 9106.50, Z = 1.184, P =.24&gt; 0.05) from the findings of the study, the researcher recommended that ministry of health and education should collaborate in carrying out campaign to increase utilization of SMP among CBMs, SMP should be included in school curriculum and all the services of SMP made free in private and public health facilities.
